The short answer
A fast business loan in New Zealand can be funded as soon as the next day when the application is complete and matched to the right lender. LoansOne arranges unsecured and property-secured business loans from $20,000 to $500,000, with many paid out within 24 hours. Starting takes about 30 seconds online.
How fast can a business get funded in New Zealand?
Faster than most owners expect. When the application is complete and goes to the right lender first time, next-day funding is possible, and many LoansOne loans are paid out within 24 hours.
That is a very different experience from a typical bank process, where an urgent request can still sit in a queue while someone waits for annual accounts or a credit committee meeting. Fast business finance is not about cutting corners. It is about removing the steps that don’t need to be there.
LoansOne arranges fast funding in two forms:
- Unsecured business loans from $20,000 to $500,000, usually the quickest route because there is no property to register.
- Fast and flexible 1st or 2nd mortgages for business purposes, also $20,000 to $500,000. No cash flow or financial records are needed and bad credit is OK.
What makes a business loan fast?
Four things decide how quickly money lands in your account. Only one of them is the lender.
- A complete application. Every missing bank statement or unanswered question adds a day. Lenders move fastest on files they can assess in one sitting.
- The right lender first time. Each lender has its own appetite. Sending an application to the wrong one costs days before the decline comes back. We match you before anyone is approached.
- The type of security. Unsecured loans can be documented and paid out quickly. Property-secured loans need lawyers and registration on the title through LINZ, which adds steps, although experienced private lenders run that process at pace.
- Fast responses from you. When a lender calls with a question, a same-hour reply keeps the file moving.

What does the fast loan process look like?
| Step | What happens | Typical timing |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Apply | Start online in about 30 seconds with the basics: amount, purpose, business details | Minutes |
| 2. Expert review | A LoansOne specialist reviews your situation and works out the best-fit lender | Usually fast, often the same day |
| 3. Lender contact | The matched lender calls you, confirms details and requests anything outstanding | Soon after review |
| 4. Approval and documents | Loan offer issued and signed, electronically where possible | Depends on how quickly documents come back |
| 5. Funding | Money paid to your account, or to IRD, a supplier or a lawyer’s trust account | As soon as the next day |
Timings are a guide, not a promise. The fastest files are the ones where step 3 has nothing left to chase. For a fuller picture of timeframes by loan type, see how long a business loan takes in NZ.
When do Kiwi businesses need emergency business finance?
Urgent funding needs rarely arrive with warning. These illustrative scenarios are the sort of thing fast business loans are built for:
A broken-down truck. A Waikato transport operator’s main unit blows a turbo mid-contract. Every day off the road costs revenue and risks the contract. A fast unsecured loan covers the repair, or a replacement unit through equipment and vehicle finance.
An IRD deduction notice. Inland Revenue can require your bank to pay amounts from your account towards tax debt. A Dunedin hospitality owner who receives one needs to clear or restructure the debt before payroll bounces. Our IRD debt loans page covers that situation.
A supplier switches to cash on delivery. A Palmerston North wholesaler’s key supplier tightens terms overnight. Short-notice funding keeps stock flowing while new terms are negotiated.
A one-off opportunity. A competitor’s stock or equipment comes up at auction with a settlement deadline. If the money isn’t ready in days, the deal goes to someone else.
What should you have ready for a fast business loan?
Getting these together before you apply is the single best thing you can do for speed.
For any business loan:
- Your business name, NZBN and Companies Office details
- Driver licence or passport for each director or owner
- A clear one-line purpose: what the money is for and how much you need
- Your repayment plan: trading income, a contract payment, a sale or a refinance
For an unsecured loan, add:
- Recent business bank statements (lenders often connect to these electronically)
- Your current IRD position, including any GST or PAYE arrears and instalment arrangements
For a property-secured loan, add:
- The property address and who owns it
- The current mortgage balance and lender
- Your lawyer’s contact details, so documents can go straight to them
You won’t need annual accounts or a business plan for property-secured lending, which is often what makes it the quicker route when your books are behind. Our business loan application checklist has the full list, and the loan readiness check tells you what you’re missing.
Fast unsecured loan or fast property-secured loan?
Both can move quickly. The right one depends on what you have and what you need.
| Fast unsecured loan | Fast 1st or 2nd mortgage | |
|---|---|---|
| Amount | $20,000 to $500,000 | $20,000 to $500,000 |
| Security | No real estate security in most cases | Residential or commercial property |
| Main assessment | Business trading and bank statements | Property equity and your exit plan |
| Financial records | Bank statements and IRD position | No cash flow or financial records needed |
| Bad credit | Considered | OK |
| Speed factors | Fewest steps, electronic documents | Lawyers and title registration |
If you’re weighing the two, our unsecured business loans page goes deeper on how lenders assess trading instead of property.

How quickly can a property-secured loan be paid out?
Property-secured loans have a few extra steps, but private lenders who do this every day run them in parallel rather than one after another.
- Valuation or property check. The lender confirms the property and its likely value. Some lenders can rely on desktop information for smaller loans, which saves days.
- Loan documents to your lawyer. Your lawyer explains the documents to you and arranges signing. Having a lawyer lined up before you apply is one of the easiest ways to save time.
- Registration on the title. The lender’s lawyer registers the mortgage electronically through LINZ, and the funds are released.
When those three steps overlap, a property-secured loan can move almost as quickly as an unsecured one. When documents sit in an inbox for a week, it can’t. If the main thing slowing you down is your accounts, remember that a 1st or 2nd mortgage for business purposes needs no cash flow or financial records.
What if your bank is too slow?
Banks can be a good long-term partner, but their processes aren’t built for urgency. Credit teams, annual accounts and set approval cycles all take time, and an urgent request rarely jumps the queue. Non-bank and private lenders make their own decisions on their own timeframes, which is why they’re often the faster option when the clock is running. If you’d like the full picture, our page on private business lenders explains how they differ.
A common approach is to use fast private finance now, solve the immediate problem, and refinance to a bank later once the pressure is off and your paperwork is up to date.
How do you avoid the traps of quick business loans?
Speed is valuable, but not at any price. A few warning signs worth knowing:
- Applying everywhere at once. It feels faster, but each application can add a credit enquiry, and a file with lots of recent enquiries looks desperate to the next lender. One well-matched application beats five scattered ones.
- Instant approvals that skip the detail. If a lender doesn’t ask how you’ll repay, ask yourself why. A loan that fixes this week but sinks next quarter isn’t fast help.
- Comparing on rate alone. Look at the total you’ll repay, including fees and early repayment terms. Every LoansOne loan is priced on your circumstances, and we work to get the sharpest rate available for your situation.
- Borrowing more than the emergency needs. Size the loan to the problem. Our cash flow gap calculator helps you work out the real number.
